Homeschool: Flash Cards

Homeschooling doesn't have to be expensive. If you like to be creative, here is your outlet!

Reading flash cards:
I made these on our computer and printed them up on colored paper. We are learning to read with "Dick and Jane" books, so I used allot of the words from the books. We call these "Sight Words" (not all the flash cards are shown in photo). You can do this for phonics letter blends and sounds as well!
I write short stories (one or a few sentences) using words we are working on.
Example: "At" The fat cat sat on a mat.
"Og" The frog sat on a log at the bog.

I just write the sentences in a notebook, and sometimes draw pictures to make it more fun. This works well for very beginning reading, because you can use whatever words you want! As they get better at reading, you can use easy readers from the library.

Make word lists and go through these before reading the story:

"At" words:
at
bat
cat
sat
mat
hat
fat
rat
Pat

"Og" words:
dog
fog
hog
bog
frog
log
jog

Etc. .
Math Flash Cards:

Again, I made these on the computer, printed them out, and cut them up.
This is great for beginner math.
I make my own math work sheets by writing the problems in a notebook, and work with the child to do the page. They LOVE it! As they get older, using "real" work books is great, but just teaching preschool and kindergarteners, it isn't necessary...
