Photo Friday: Squares

It is photo Friday again at http://zeahrenaissance.blogspot.com!  The theme this week is squares. I don't know if I will be able to shoot any photos today, so for now, just some contributions from the past...

A trip to Amish country one and a half years ago while I was home visiting from Africa:

And another old photo...
Telma, one of my girls in Africa. The kids were coloring on the floor, and she got creative with the crayons:-)
Check out Rabecca's blog for more contributions!

Photo Friday: Hearts

It's photo Friday at Rabecca's blog http://zeahrenaissance.blogspot.com
This week's theme is hearts. Here are my contributions (I am no photographer, but I hope to get better with practice).
Valentine sugar cookie hearts:
The color is really light on this one for some reason:

...And some hearts I painted on my friend's car window for her wedding! You can see her reflection in the window too, which I think is kind of cool:-) Too bad the groom wasn't in the picture, or it would be really cool!

Photo Friday: Loving

It's "Photo Friday" over at Rabecca's blog. The theme is "Loving". Here are my contributions!

Valentine's Day one year ago:
I was in Mozambique still. Two of my girls helped make heart shaped jam tart cookies for all of the girl's dorm to share!
And here are some of the my girls in Africa...I love them!!:

And now for some proof of the power of God's love!:

Sina upon arrival at our center in November of 2006. 5 weeks old and weighing just under 3 pounds.
She was very malnourished!
We prayed for her and loved on her and took care of her 24/7.
Here she is the day I left Mozambique!:

M & M's

M & M's are great for fun learning activities for small children!

• They can learn the letter "m" and practice writing it (and use the M & M's to form the letter "m"!)
• Sorting: Set out six small bowls. Place one different colored M & M in each bowl. Ask the children to tell you each color, then have them sort the rest of the M & M's into the appropriate bowl.
• Count how many from each color.
• For older children they can do ratios: for example, out of 36 M & M's there are 7 blue. What is the ratio of blue M & M's to all the other colors?

•Don't forget to have some fun eating these! Make up your favorite batch of chocolate chip cookie dough, minus the chocolate chips. Get the little hands to help! After the children roll the cookie dough into balls, let them decorate the dough balls with M & M's (say like 5 per cookie, so they can count too!). Bake, cool, and eat with a cup of milk!

• Making M & M art is fun, too:-)

I did some of these activities with the children I nanny. They were ages 4 and 2, and they loved it! Especially making the M & M cookies:-)
